Laser Hair Removal may sound like a scene out of a science fiction movie. However, those who know little about hair removal claim that laser removal is unsafe, could burn your skin or cause cancer. Not at all. Many statistics prove hair removal is effective, safe and many patients have benefited.
What is laser hair removal? A laser beam is aimed at your skin to remove hair and prevent it from growing back. When the laser hits melanin in the hair follicles, a reaction is generated, leading to the destruction of the hair follicle. Over time and several treatments later, hair does grow back but increasingly finer until hair stops growing altogether.
What Statistics Show
Almost 90% of hair removal clients gave 100% assurance they would use hair removal when needed. In another study, 82% of women who used hair removal treatment claimed they would undergo laser hair removal again, and these women are from different ages and backgrounds.
Let’s not leave men out of the studies. More men are using hair removal. In studies, 45% of men who used hair removal treatments confirmed their hair was long gone after laser treatments. And, yes, they would use hair removal to remove back hair, unsightly underarm hair, and hair in other areas.

“Laser hair removal is painful.”
There is little pain involved in hair removal. Your technician will use a topical pain aesthetic to keep you comfortable if needed. Laser hair removal also has little downtime, meaning you do not need recovery time after a hair removal session.
“Your hair will grow back.”
Knowing the cycle of hair growth helps in understanding why hair removal requires multiple treatments. The exact number of treatments will be exclusive to you but plan about six treatments over several months. As you wait between treatments, some of your hair will cycle out of the dormant phase and move into the growing phase. Your next treatments will catch the growing hair.
You will need maintenance treatments because of hormones. Dead follicles will not grow hair, and disabled follicles will be hair-free for a long time, but hormones can re-activate hair follicles or generate new hair growth in places you have never seen hair.
Between six and 18 months after your last treatment, you may want to get maintenance treatments. Maintenance treatments will keep your skin hair-free for months. With enough maintenance treatments, disabled follicles may be completed destroyed.
“Laser hair removal is bad.”
hair removal is generally side-effect-free. However, sometimes, there can be blistering, scarring, crusting, or other changes in your skin texture if it isn’t done correctly. Generally, hair removal leaves your skin softer, smoother, and hair-free!
Note also that lasers used in hair removal have minimal radiation. Therefore, hair removal lasers do not cause cancer risks.
Hair removal has little or no downtime, is, however, you may need to pamper your skin with moisturizer and avoid the sun for about 24 hours after treatment.
